Byron Bayers Memorial Jr Hereford Breeder Of The Year Award
This award is presented in memory of Byron Bayers who dedicated his life to the Hereford breed. Through the years, he generously helped and supported young people who wanted to be involved in Herefords whether it was in the showring or getting a Hereford herd started. He worked a great deal with 4-H, FFA and the Montana Junior Hereford Association and Montana Hereford Association as well as juniors on the national level.
He was raised on the family ranch, Bayers Hereford Ranch, near Twin Bridges which was established in 1918. Byron saw many different things during his lifetime. He lived through the Depression, two wars and endured many economic fluctuations, all of which affected the cattle business. Through it all he endured and raised quality Herefords, always striving to improve the breed.
Byron passed away in July of 2018. The family is honored to present this award in his memory to a deserving Montana Junior Hereford member.
